Best descaling on the market. No magic, no esotericism, no hocus-pocus. Evidence-based, scientific and timely.
Water softening without salt from EVODROP
Countless products are flooding the market and causing uncertainty among consumers. Evodrop also believes that limescale must be removed from the water in order to solve the limescale problem. However, retailers and suppliers of water softeners tell you that the only way to check water hardness and therefore limescale protection is to use test strips. But this is not the case, because the test strips are only designed to react to mineral ions.
The effective amount of particles in the water remains the same and you can easily test this at home with a PPM measuring device. Why? Because salt is released into the water in exchange for minerals. And no, not Himalayan or sea salt. It is advisable to take a look at the supplementary sheet for regenerating salt.
EVODROP leads with innovation, proving that salt-free descaling systems are not just possible but set a new benchmark in the industry.

More InformationWhat Sets EVODROP Apart?
EVODROP takes descaling to the next level by eliminating hydrogen carbonates — the main cause of limescale — using its patented malic acid technology. Derived from organic fruit sources, primarily apples, this innovative solution meets all food-compliant standards and sets a global benchmark for salt-free water softening systems.
While traditional systems require up to 120 kilograms of salt per 100,000 liters of water, EVODROP needs only 1 kilogram of malic acid to achieve the same effect. This groundbreaking technology offers a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative.
Advantages of EVODROP's Salt-Free Technology
Comparable results to conventional salt-based water softeners, but with significantly reduced environmental impact. Appliances can be adjusted for softer water, saving on detergent and fabric softener.
No Salt, Electricity, or Wastewater Needed
As no salt, electricity or waste water is required, this has two major advantages: firstly, maintenance costs are reduced to a minimum and owners can easily carry out maintenance themselves by simply changing the cartridge without tools. Secondly, the taste of the water is not affected. On the contrary - the water tastes soft and is also freed from heavy metals, viruses and bacteria with a filtration module. It doesn't matter whether your pipes are old or new, because this filtration ensures efficient pipe protection.
Customizable Filtration for Enhanced Water Quality
EVODROP's filtration levels are fully adjustable, allowing users to remove pollutants such as microplastics, hormones, pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria, and viruses. The modular system ensures tailored water quality that adapts to your needs each year.

Water treatment and water filtration without salt
Water treatment and water filtration are important processes for obtaining drinking water from raw water sources. Salt is often used as a water treatment agent to soften hard water and remove unwanted ions and impurities. Despite the widespread use of salt in water treatment, the use of salt can be harmful as it can lead to increased salt levels in drinking water and have negative effects on health and the environment.
Why is salt in water treatment harmful?
Increased salt content in drinking water: The use of salt for water treatment can lead to increased sodium intake, negatively impacting health, especially for people with high blood pressure or kidney problems.
Negative impact on the environment: High salt content in treated wastewater can harm aquatic ecosystems and hinder the growth of plants and animals.
Corrosion of pipes and equipment: Salty water accelerates corrosion in pipes and equipment, resulting in higher maintenance costs and inefficiencies.
Alternatives to Water Treatment with Salt
There are various salt-free water treatment alternatives that are both effective and environmentally friendly:
Regenerating salt: Harmful to the environment and health.
Reverse osmosis: A water treatment process where pressure forces water through a semi-permeable membrane, removing impurities, ions, and salt without requiring additional salt.
Ion exchange: This process uses ion exchange resins to remove unwanted ions and hardness formers, offering an alternative to salt-based water softeners.
Activated carbon filtration: : Removes chlorine and organic impurities effectively, requiring no salt in the process.
UV disinfection: UV disinfection is a water treatment process that uses UV radiation to kill bacteria and viruses. It requires no additional salt and is an effective method of water treatment.
Gravity filtration: A natural filtration process using sand and gravel to eliminate impurities without adding salt.
Regenerating Salt: Harmful to the Environment and Health
Regenerating salt, often used in dishwashers and salt-based water softeners, has proven harmful to humans and the environment. Switching to sustainable, salt-free descaling systems like Evodrop’s offers a cleaner, safer alternative.
Due to its harmful properties, regenerated salt can cause serious environmental and health problems.
Why is Regenerating Salt Harmful?
- H412: Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects: Regenerating salt may have a negative effect on the aquatic ecosystem and disturb the balance of aquatic organisms. The long-term effect may lead to a deterioration in water quality and a decline in biodiversity.
- P102: Keep out of the reach of children: Due to its potential health risks, regenerating salt should be kept away from children. Accidental ingestion or contact can lead to health problems.
- P315: Get medical advice/attention immediately: In case of accidental ingestion or exposure to regenerating salt, it is important to seek medical advice or attention immediately.
- P101: If medical advice is needed, have container or label at hand: To ensure prompt and effective treatment in the event of exposure to regenerating salt, it is important to have the packaging or label ready to provide the doctor with all necessary information.
- P410: Protect from sunlight: Regenerating salt should be protected from direct sunlight to minimize its harmful effects on the environment.

By switching to Evodrop, consumers benefit from an eco-friendly water softening system that is both sustainable and health-conscious, avoiding the negative effects of regenerating salt.
Ion exchange process (salt systems)
A water softening system based on ion exchange leads to a change in drinking water quality. The water hardness or limescale in water consists mainly of the minerals calcium and magnesium bound to the carbonate ions. Hard water contains particularly high levels of carbonate ions.
A water softener exchanges these calcium and magnesium ions for sodium. This leads to an increase in the sodium value in the water. This is also the reason why salt must be regularly added to the water softener's storage tank. And no, not Hymalaya or sea salt. Special chemically processed sodium chloride.
The salt is not harmless and this is stated accordingly on the leaflet:
- H412 - Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects
- P102 - Keep out of the reach of children
- P315 - Get medical advice/attention immediately
- P101 - If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand
- P410 - Protect from sunlight
Summary
- Limescale protection (W510): high (approx. 90%)
- Addition or use of conditioning agents: Exchange of calcium & magnesium for NaCl (sodium chloride)
- Special features: Increased risk of corrosion and contamination
- Acquisition costs: high
- Suppliers (brands): Grünbeck, BWT, Kalkmaster, Aqmos, and many more
Heterogeneous catalysis (seed crystals)
The effect of so-called catalyst technology is based on the generation of crystal nuclei. In this case, however, the crystal nuclei are generated by the formation of tiny lime crystals on the surface of a special granulate from the calcium and magnesium ions contained in the water. The lime crystals formed are detached from the surface by the flow or contact between the granules.
The formation of crystal nuclei should lead to calcium carbonate precipitation taking place mainly in the water body and not on the surfaces of the pipe or heat exchanger surfaces. However, direct proof of the formation of crystal nuclei has not yet been provided. The lime, i.e. the carbonate ions, remain in the water.
The formation process of crystals takes place automatically in supersaturated water on the surface of the granulate. Such systems have therefore primarily been used in the hot water sector to date.
Summary
- Limescale protection (W510): high (approx. 80%)
- Addition or use of processing materials: Biominerals (ceramic balls)
- Special features: No corrosion protection and no filtration
- Acquisition costs: high
- Suppliers (brands): Maicat, Aqon, and many more
Preparation purely physical (magnets)
They are dissolved in water as charged particles - so-called ions. These ions are attracted or repelled by magnets. This is where the idea of water softening using magnets comes from.
The advertised "miracle magnet" mode of action, in which the magnetic field supposedly changes the limescale crystals contained in the water, is highly controversial from a scientific point of view. What's more, numerous limescale magnet tests have shown that the magnetic water softeners are completely ineffective and cannot work at all from a physical point of view. Water molecules are not magnetic and are neither negatively nor positively charged on the outside.
Neither the structure of the water nor that of the dissolved substances can be influenced with a limescale protection magnet, as neither the water nor the substances dissolved in it have a solid structure. In addition, magnetic descaling cannot even come close to passing the so-called W512 test, which requires an efficiency of at least 80% (magnets achieve a maximum of 35%).
Summary:
- Limescale protection (W510): high approx. 90%
- Addition or use of treatment substances: No use of substances in the water
- Special features: Acts purely physically without a power connection
- Acquisition costs: medium
- Operating costs: low
- Maintenance effort: low
- Suppliers (brands): Aquaphi, Hydroflow, Grander, and many more
Electrophysical treatment
This area includes coils that emit electrical impulses. An electro-magnetic field is created in which the physical properties of the lime particles contained in the flowing water are changed. This is done in such a way that they no longer bind together and are therefore less able to form deposits.
Their electromagnetic fields are intended to shift the scaling process away from the pipe wall into the flowing water and keep the pipes clear. This process is said to form microcrystals of limescale, which remain in suspension and are swept away with the flowing water. Unfortunately, this principle does not work in every case, as Stiftung Warentest has already established several times.
Some manufacturers have had their appliances tested for safety by renowned institutions such as TÜV (GS mark) or VDE. However, these test marks merely state that the appliances are designed in such a way that their operation does not pose any danger. The "DIN ISO 9002" mark only confirms that the manufacturer complies with certain quality standards. These test marks do not provide any information about the effectiveness of limescale removal.
Summary:
- Limescale protection (W510): high approx. 90%
- Addition or use of treatment substances: No use of substances in the water
- Special features: Acts purely physically without a power connection
- Acquisition costs: medium
- Operating costs: low

THE EVODROP SYSTEM
The water is circulated in the EVOtransform at around 100,000 revolutions per minute using the patented rotating nozzles.
Electrophysical Treatment
Thanks to this enormous physical force, the bound carbonic acid can be released into the water, stabilizing the lime-carbonic acid ratio and ensuring that the malic acid can ideally bind with the mineral ions in the water. The free carbonic acid can break down and flush out existing deposits from the pipe system from time to time. The effect of this process has been scientifically substantiated and patented as state-of-the-art technology.
After treatment, the water also tastes softer and more digestible, as is known from natural springs in which the water is constantly in motion. Tested and verified by independent institutes, it stimulates the basal cell metabolism and thus cell activity by 50% more than untreated tap water.
Biochemical processing
The "EVOhome" solution guarantees a limescale protection rate of up to 94.2% without the use of salt, waste water or electricity, thanks to its patented malic acid and innovative ion sieve technology. Unlike inoculation crystals, swirlers or magnetizers, the limescale is not converted but actually dissolved in the water. This means that the annoying limescale can be collected and processed in the filter cartridge.
Malic acid is an organic component of many fruits, but is mainly found in apples. Malic acid is an intermediate product in the energy production cycle of living organisms and plants. In this respect, it is completely neutral and tasteless.
The filtration material in the EVOdescale filters heavy metals to protect against corrosion and eliminates bacteria and viruses from the water.
EVODROP-SYSTEM facts:
- Limescale protection (W510): 94.2%
- Addition or use of processing agents: Use of food-safe, tasteless and odorless malic acid (certified by the FDA and MOCA)
- Special features: Acts in combination with physical and biochemical treatment combined with filtration material
- Acquisition costs: high
- Operating costs: low
