Descale without salt

Best descaling on the market. No magic, no esotericism, no hocus pocus. Evidence-based, scientific and timely.

Countless products flood the market and create uncertainty among consumers. Evodrop also believes that lime needs to be removed from the water to solve the lime problem. However, dealers and providers of softening systems will tell you that water hardness and accordingly lime protection can only be tested using test strips. But it doesn’t, because the test strips are designed to only react to mineral ions.

The effective amount of particles in the water remains the same and you can easily test this at home with a PPM measuring device. Why? Because salt is released into the water in exchange for minerals. And no, not Himalayan or sea salt. It is advisable to take a look at the leaflet on regenerating salt.

Evodrop takes it sportingly and simply wants to clarify that descaling without salt can demonstrably work and defines the latest state of the art.

What does Evodrop do differently?

Evodrop only eliminates the hydrogen carbonates, namely the annoying lime. This is done through the specially developed and patented malic acid complex. Malic acid is an organic component of many fruits, but it is particularly found in apples. All food-conformity test criteria are thus met, as it is obtained from food-grade raw materials. The process is internationally protected and sets new standards in descaling worldwide.

A major advantage over descaling systems that require 120 kilograms of salt per 100,000 liters of water is that Evodrop only needs 400 grams of malic acid for the same amount of water.

What are the advantages of such technology?

The result is comparable to traditional salt-based water softeners, but it’s more sustainable and requires less effort. The devices can be adjusted to soften water just as well, and you save on detergent and fabric softener.

Since neither salt, electricity, nor wastewater is required, this brings two major advantages: Firstly, maintenance costs are reduced to a minimum, and owners can easily perform maintenance themselves through a simple cartridge change without tools. Secondly, the water’s taste is not affected. On the contrary – the water tastes soft and is also freed from heavy metals, viruses, and bacteria through a filtration module. Whether your pipes are old or new is irrelevant, as this filtration provides efficient pipe protection.

The filtration stage can be adjusted by the customer, and with a better filtration module, any pollutants such as microplastics, hormones, pesticides, heavy metals, as well as bacteria and viruses can be eliminated from the water. Since the modules are replaceable, the customer can decide annually which filtration stage is desired.

Safety through science

No expense was spared, and a complex testing procedure was carried out at SGS, the world’s largest water testing facility. Here, a strong lime protection rate of up to 94.2% was successfully demonstrated and certified. The methods used have been certified as absolutely harmless to health by the FDA and other quality seals.

In addition to lime-free water, Evodrop is the only solution that also provides evidence that the water is better, fresher, and healthier after treatment. The conductivity and solubility are improved, and the water is 50% more cell-accessible. Facts which may seem banal, but are clearly noticeable with every sip of water.

Actions instead of words

Evodrop’s quality products have already received various awards, such as the “Water Filter Specialist of the Year” and various sustainability awards. Renowned administrations and companies, such as one of the largest real estate companies “Swiss Prime Site”, already trust the technology and have switched to Evodrop.

Water treatment and water filtration without salt

Water treatment and filtration are important processes for obtaining drinking water from raw water sources. Salt is often used as a means of water treatment to soften hard water and remove unwanted ions and impurities. Despite the widespread use of salt in water treatment, its usage can be harmful as it can lead to increased salt levels in drinking water and can have negative impacts on health and the environment.

Why is salt in water treatment harmful?

The use of salt in water treatment can lead to increased salt levels in drinking water, especially in areas with limited access to fresh water sources. An increased salt content in drinking water can result in increased sodium intake, which can, in turn, have negative health impacts, particularly in people with high blood pressure or kidney problems.

The use of salt in water treatment can also have negative impacts on the environment, particularly on the salt levels in rivers and lakes where treated wastewater is discharged. High salt content in water can harm ecosystems and impede the growth of plants and animals.

  • Salt-laden water can lead to corrosion of pipes and equipment in water treatment facilities, which can result in increased maintenance costs and inefficient water treatment.

Alternatives to water treatment with salt

There are various alternatives to salt-based water treatment that are both effective and more environmentally friendly:

Reverse Osmosis: Reverse osmosis is a water treatment method that uses pressure to push water through a semi-permeable membrane that retains impurities. Reverse osmosis is effective in removing salt, ions, and contaminants and requires no additional salt.

Ion Exchange: Ion exchange is a water treatment method that uses ion exchange resins to remove unwanted ions. This process is effective in removing hardness-causing ions, but it does not require the addition of salt.

Activated Carbon Filtration: Activated carbon filtration is a water treatment method that uses activated carbon to remove contaminants from the water. It is effective in removing chlorine and organic contaminants, but it requires no additional salt.

UV Disinfection: UV disinfection is a water treatment method that uses UV radiation to kill bacteria and viruses. It requires no additional salt and is an effective method of water treatment.

Gravity Filtration: Gravity filtration is a water treatment method that allows water to flow through a natural filter of sand and gravel to remove impurities. It requires no additional salt and is an effective method of water treatment.

Regenerating salt: Harmful to the environment and health

Regeneration salt, used in dishwashers and salt-based water softeners, has been proven to be harmful to both humans and the environment. Although many people are not aware of these negative impacts, it is important to switch to alternative and eco-friendly solutions like Evodrop, which do not use salts or chemicals.

Regeneration salt can cause serious environmental and health issues due to its harmful properties. Here are some reasons why regeneration salt is considered harmful:

Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects: Regeneration salt can negatively impact the aquatic ecosystem and disrupt the balance of water organisms. Its long-term effects can lead to a deterioration in water quality and a decrease in biodiversity.

Must not get into the hands of children: Due to its potential health risks, regeneration salt should be kept away from children. Accidental ingestion or contact can lead to health problems.

Seek medical advice immediately/call a doctor: In case of accidental ingestion or exposure to regeneration salt, it is important to seek medical advice immediately or consult a doctor.

If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand: To ensure quick and effective treatment in case of exposure to regeneration salt, it is important to have the packaging or label at hand to provide the doctor with all necessary information.

Protect from sunlight: Regeneration salt should be protected from direct sunlight to minimize its harmful effects on the environment.

In light of these harmful aspects of regeneration salt, Evodrop presents a superior alternative for safe and efficient water filtration. Evodrop is an innovative water filter solution that is leading in the market and operates without the use of salt or chemicals.

By switching to Evodrop, consumers benefit from an environmentally friendly and health-conscious solution for water purification, without having to accept the negative impacts of regeneration salt.

COMPARISON OF CONVENTIONAL SYSTEMS

Ion exchange process (salt plants)

A water softening system based on ion exchange leads to a change in the quality of drinking water. Water hardness, or the lime in the water, consists mostly of the minerals calcium and magnesium bound to carbonate ions. Hard water contains particularly many carbonate ions.

A softening system exchanges these calcium and magnesium ions for sodium. This leads to an increase in the sodium value in the water. This is also the reason that salt must be regularly refilled into the storage container of the softening system. And no, not Himalayan or sea salt. Special chemically treated sodium chloride instead.

The salt is not harmless and this is accordingly indicated on the leaflet:

  1. H412 – Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects
  2. P102 – Keep out of reach of children
  3. P315 – Seek immediate medical advice/attention
  4. P101 – If medical advice is needed, have product container or label at hand
  5. P410 – Protect from sunlight

Heterogeneous catalysis (seed crystals)

The effect of the so-called catalyst technology is based on the generation of crystal nuclei. However, in this case, the generation of the crystal nuclei is achieved by forming the smallest lime crystals on the surface of a special granulate from the calcium and magnesium ions contained in the water. The formed lime crystals are washed off the surface due to the flow or the contact between the granulates.

The process of crystal formation occurs naturally on the surface of the granulate in supersaturated water. Therefore, corresponding systems have been primarily used in the hot water area until now.

The formation of the crystal nuclei is then supposed to lead to the calcium carbonate precipitation mainly occurring in the body of water and not on the surfaces of the pipe or heat exchanger surfaces. However, a direct proof of the formation of crystal nuclei has not yet been provided. The lime, that is the carbonate ions, remain in the water in this case.

Preparation purely physical (magnets)

In water, they are dissolved as charged particles – so-called ions. These ions are attracted or repelled by magnets. Hence comes the idea of water softening using magnets.

The advertised “wonder magnet” effect, in which the magnetic field allegedly changes the lime crystals contained in the water, is highly controversial scientifically. Even more so: In numerous lime magnet tests, it was shown that magnetic water softeners are completely ineffective and cannot function at all from a physical perspective. Water molecules are not magnetic and neither negatively nor positively charged externally. With a lime protection magnet, neither the structure of the water nor that of the dissolved substances can be influenced, because neither the water nor the substances dissolved in it have a fixed structure.

In addition, magnetic descaling can hardly pass the so-called test according to the W512 standard, which requires an efficiency of at least 80% (the magnets manage a maximum of 35%).

Electrophysical preparation

This area includes, among other things, coils that emit electrical impulses. An electromagnetic field is created, in which the physical properties of the lime particles contained in the flowing water are supposed to change. In such a way that they can no longer bind, thus they can deposit less well.

Their electromagnetic fields are supposed to shift the calcification process from the pipe wall into the flowing water and keep the pipes free. Allegedly, this process forms microcrystals of lime that remain in suspension and are swept away with the flowing water. Unfortunately, this principle does not work in every case, as Stiftung Warentest has already found several times.

Some manufacturers have subjected their devices to a safety inspection by reputable institutions, such as TÜV (GS mark) or VDE. However, these test marks merely state that the devices are designed in such a way that their operation does not pose any dangers. The “DIN ISO 9002” mark only confirms that the manufacturer maintains certain quality standards. These test marks do not provide any information about the effectiveness of the lime deposition.

EVODROP SYSTEM

Physical pretreatment

In the EVOtransform, the water is set into a circulation of around 100,000 revolutions per minute using patented rotary nozzles.

Thanks to this enormous physical force, the bound carbonic acid in the water can be released, which stabilizes the lime-carbonic acid ratio and ensures that the malic acid can ideally bind with the mineral ions in the water. The free carbonic acid can break down and flush out existing deposits from the piping system from time to time. The effectiveness of this process has been scientifically substantiated and patented as the latest state of the art.

The water also tastes softer and more digestible after treatment, as is known from natural sources, where the water is constantly in motion. Tested and checked by independent institutes, it stimulates basal cell metabolism and thus cell activity 50% more strongly compared to untreated tap water.

Biochemical preparation

With the “EVOhome” solution, thanks to the patented malic acid and innovative ion sieve technology, a lime protection rate of up to 94.2% is guaranteed without the use of salt, wastewater, or electricity. Unlike with inoculation crystals, vortex generators or magnetizers, the lime is not transformed but truly dissolved in the water. Thus, the annoying lime can be caught and processed in the filter cartridge.

Malic acid is an organic component of many fruits, which, however, mainly occurs in apples. Malic acid is an intermediate product in the cycle of energy production in organisms and plants. Therefore, it is completely neutral and tasteless.

With the filtration material in EVOdescale, heavy metals are filtered to protect against corrosion, and bacteria, as well as viruses, are eliminated from the water.

The interplay of physical and biochemical treatment was effectively tested and certified by SGS with a proven lime protection of up to 94.2%. Thus, it is one of the few systems that can work without salt and have been able to demonstrate and certify their high effectiveness in lime protection.

Conclusion

Water treatment and filtration are important processes for obtaining drinking water from raw water sources. Although salt is often used as a means of water treatment, its use can be harmful as it can lead to increased salt levels in drinking water and can have negative impacts on health and the environment.

There are various alternatives to salt-based water treatment, such as reverse osmosis, ion exchange, activated carbon filtration, UV disinfection, and gravity filtration, which are both effective and more environmentally friendly. The choice of the right water treatment method depends on various factors, including the type of contaminants, the size of the water treatment plant, and the availability of resources.

It’s important that water treatment plants use sustainable and environmentally friendly methods for water treatment to ensure that the provided drinking water is safe and clean, and does not harm health or the environment.
